State and local leaders in education and business gathered at Columbia State Community College’s Cherry Theater on Tuesday to participate in a “Connecting the Dots” summit, the latest event in the partnership between Maury County Schools and the Maury Chamber & Economic Alliance.
The goal: Creating a high-quality local workforce and students ready for college.
The evening’s discussion included Tennessee Education Commissioner Dr. Candice McQueen, Director of Workforce Development Ann Thompson and South Central Workforce Alliance Director Jan McKeel.
Local business leaders included Smelter Service President Tom Grosko and Maury Regional Medical Center CEO Alan Watson.
Maury Alliance President Wil Evans, Maury County Director of Schools Dr. Chris Marczak, Columbia Central High Principal Roger White and Santa Fe Unit School Principal Carolyn Willey were among the 11 community leaders.
Others were CSCC President Janet F. Smith and SCORE CEO Jamie Woodson.
The event was was moderated by Daily Herald editor James Bennett.
Panelists talked about Maury Schools’ “Keys to College and Career Readiness,” student absenteeism, racial diversity, parental involvement, technology, the future of Maury County’s job market and its expectations for employees.
