Small Business Week Is Coming!

Here’s How You Can Show Support

Small Business Week is just around the corner! This annual celebration, happening May 4-10, is all about recognizing the hardworking entrepreneurs, local shops, and community staples that power our economy and give our towns their unique charm.

At the Maury County Chamber & Economic Alliance, we’re proud to support the small business owners who make our community thrive—and we’re inviting YOU to join us!

Whether you’re a longtime local or a new resident, there are plenty of ways to make a big impact. Here are 13 easy and creative ways to start supporting small businesses now and get ready for Small Business Week:

1. Make a Plan to Shop Local

Need to grab a gift, book a service, or plan a night out? Look ahead and choose a local option. Making intentional purchases from small businesses is one of the most effective ways to support them.

2. Follow Local Businesses on Social Media

Find your favorite shops, cafes, and service providers on Instagram or Facebook and give them a follow. This helps you stay in the loop for upcoming deals, events, and specials during Small Business Week.

3. Engage With Their Content

A quick like, comment, or share helps local businesses get seen by more people—and it doesn’t cost a dime.

4. Leave a Positive Review

A glowing Google or Facebook review boosts visibility and builds credibility for a business. If you’ve had a great experience, now is the perfect time to share it!

5. Purchase a Gift Card

Gift cards are a great way to support businesses ahead of time—and they make thoughtful gifts, too. Not sure where to buy? Try a Local First Gift Card, which can be used at dozens of participating Maury County businesses. It’s a great way to keep your dollars local and support multiple shops and restaurants with one purchase!

6. Join Their Loyalty or Rewards Program

Many small businesses offer loyalty perks or punch cards. Signing up helps them build a community of repeat customers—and gives you something to look forward to.

7. Invite Friends to Join You

Plan a lunch date, shopping trip, or service appointment with a friend during Small Business Week. It’s more fun together, and you’re helping introduce new customers to a local business.

8. Refer Local Professionals

Know a great local photographer, realtor, plumber, or CPA? Recommend them! Word-of-mouth referrals are gold for small businesses.

9. Buy Merch or Branded Items

A t-shirt from your favorite café or a mug from a local bookstore not only supports them—it gives you a chance to represent your community wherever you go.

10. Mark Your Calendar for Local Events

From pop-up markets to workshops, grand openings, and sidewalk sales—small businesses often host their own events to bring people together and showcase what they do best. Make an effort to attend, bring a friend, and show your support in person. Your presence means more than you know!

11. Support Online, Too

Many small businesses offer online shopping or booking. If you can’t visit in person, consider ordering online from a local business instead of a big-box store.

12. Share Their Job Postings

If a business is hiring, spread the word or recommend someone you know. Helping them grow their team helps them grow their business.

13. Take a Workshop or Class

Many local businesses offer experiences—like cooking classes, painting nights, or yoga sessions. Sign up with a friend and support a small business while trying something new!

Small Business Week is more than a celebration—it’s a reminder of the powerful role local businesses play in shaping our community and our future. Start showing your support today and help us spread the word!
