Maury the Mule FAQs

Should my business participate?

Yes, if you have a physical location that sells a product or service and is open during normal business hours. Maury the Mule is a great way to increase foot traffic and visibility for your business!

What if my business operates on non-traditional business hours?

We love all of our Maury County businesses! Maury the Mule happens during Spring Break and Mule Day, so we have many families who participate during the day. Ensuring your business is open and accessible during normal daytime hours is the best way to serve the participants!

What is expected of participating merchants/businesses?

Maury Alliance will produce and provide all materials! Merchants are responsible for:

  • Paying the nominal participation fee of $25. This fee goes toward the production costs for materials. Note: invoices will be sent one week prior to the event, and must be paid as soon as possible.
  • Providing Maury Alliance with a $25 gift card to your business to be used as a prize for winning participants. Note: Maury Alliance staff will pick up your gift card when they bring you your materials.
  • Hiding Maury the Mule in your business location. While you can simply put him at the desk, the purpose is to hide Maury somewhere participants need to search for him. This increases visibility to your business!
  • Signing or stamping participants’ passports only after they have located Maury the Mule.

What is expected of those participating in the scavenger hunt?

Participants will pick up a passport at the Maury Alliance office or participating businesses. They will then visit as many locations listed on their passport as possible to locate Maury the Mule, which is hidden in each business. Once they have located Maury, the merchant will stamp or sign the participant’s passport. Once the passport is completed, participants drop it off at the Maury Alliance office no later than April 14th at 4:00pm for entry into our jackpot and grand prize drawings.

Can I offer a discount/promotion to participants?

It is not required to offer a discount or promotion to scavenger hunt participants. You are welcome to do so, but this is up to each individual business, and must be communicated via your own social channels, as Maury Alliance is not able to provide any additional marketing or promotional information.

Are scavenger hunt participants required to purchase from participating merchants/businesses?

No, participants are not required to make a purchase, and businesses cannot require purchase to receive a stamp. The goal of this is to provide foot traffic and visibility to your business, and many merchants do make sales during this time. But no, it is not and cannot be a requirement.
